With a unique climate, a temperate Mediterranean with Atlantic influence, and a singular terroir with a thousand-year tradition, Monterrei wines are produced naturally, with the utmost respect for the environment, to offer the highest quality and a distinctive personality.

Silva Daponte Mencía is a wine made with Mencía grapes harvested in September from vineyards in the Monterrei Valley. It is protected by the Monterrei PDO. Mencía is a medium-sized, round grape with a slightly thick skin, growing in compact, medium-sized bunches with standard ripening, high sugar content, low acidity, and a bluish-purple color. Mencía wines are fruity, with a predominance of red and black forest fruits, strawberry, and cherry, along with hints of mint, licorice, and a light earthy touch. On the palate, it is round and delicate with cherry, blackberry, and spicy notes.

Silva Daponte Mencía is a clear, bright wine with a medium-to-high intensity and a deep cherry color. It has a medium aromatic intensity with notes of red fruits such as raspberry, blackberry, currant, and blueberry, along with a mineral background reminiscent of the terroir. It is a flavorful wine, very pleasant on the palate, and with an excellent finish. It seduces us with its fruit and hints of blackberry jelly.

Chaves Wineries

Bodegas Chaves is located in Ribadumia, Pontevedra. At the westernmost end of the Celtic corridor of the Atlantic, in Galicia, José Chaves Chaves founded the Chaves winery in 1955, using the same name for his wines. From father to son, continuity was guaranteed, and the generational handover propelled the dream forward, bringing vigor and drive to an increasingly stimulating and dynamic project.

In 1986, the winery was among the first to market wines under the "Vinos de la Tierra" designation, guaranteeing the origin of Albariño from Salnés. Following this experience, they actively participated in the creation of the renowned Rías Baixas Designation of Origin, proudly being the second winery to register. Today, the journey continues. They know that success is possible, committed to their work and expertise, for the benefit of their customers, to whom they wish to offer the very best that a land like theirs can produce.

The history of the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin is deeply intertwined with the history of Bodegas Chaves. It was José Chaves who, in the 7s, along with other colleagues, informed the local people of the potential of their land for cultivating vines whose fruit, the Albariño grape, possessed extraordinary organoleptic and winemaking properties. At that time, he, then head of Bodegas Chaves, and together with seven other wineries, began a promotional campaign to gain traction in Europe and ultimately establish a Protected Geographical Indication.
