Finca Villacreces

The earliest bibliographic records of this estate on the banks of the Duero River pertain to its first settler, the Franciscan friar Pedro de Villacreces, from whom it takes its name. Along with him, a group of clergymen, including Saint Peter Regalado, patron saint of Valladolid, settled in this privileged moorland to dedicate themselves to prayer and farming, where they already had a small vineyard for their own consumption and that of nearby monasteries.

For several centuries, Villacreces was a retreat center for Franciscan hermits dedicated to reflection and penance, as well as farming and observing nature. With the arrival of the Mendizábal confiscations in 1836, these lands passed into private hands, specifically to the Marquisate of Teodosio Alonso-Pesquera, a senator of the kingdom under Alfonso XIII, who shortly thereafter granted a royal concession giving Finca Villacreces water rights over the Duero River.

The second Marquis of Alonso Pesquera sold this estate at the beginning of the 20th century to the Cuadrado family from Valladolid, who used the farm as a recreational area, hosting illustrious guests. One of them, Peter Sisseck, used the winery and part of the vineyard to produce his Flor de Pingus.

In 2004, after a long search throughout the Ribera del Duero region, Gonzalo and Lalo Antón, who already owned wineries in Rioja (Izadi) and Toro (Vetus), met the Cuadrado family. Pedro Cuadrado hinted at his interest in gradually withdrawing from the wine business and finding someone to take over the estate, an opportunity they seized to acquire one of the most spectacular properties in the Ribera del Duero. After renovating the winery and meticulously restoring the vineyard, Villacreces reopened in 2007.
